NAPLES — When Collier County School Board member Julie Sprague thinks about her weekend, she won’t remember the heat or her aching muscles.
She won’t remember because she will be too busy thinking about the children she made smile just by riding her bicycle.
Sprague is riding 200 miles this weekend in the Friends Together AIDS Ride 8: Riding for a Cause.
The ride is an important fundraiser for the organization, Friends Together, which provides assistance for HIV-positive children and families.
“Donations for this year are down by over 50 percent. If we do not raise money soon, we will have to cut back on the services that we provide our clients at no charge to them -- including our inspirational camps, and school supply and Christmas drives,” Sprague wrote in a fundraising letter.
Sprague is hoping to raise $15,000, which would sponsor one weekend camp for 100 children.
The actual ride is three days and 300 miles throughout Florida.
Sprague could not make the first day, but planned to ride Saturday and Sunday.
